Tetris Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
